VAPORESSO XROS PRO 2

The VAPORESSO XROS PRO 2 is the successor to one of the most popular devices in the series, and it’s taking things to another level. It features a massive 2000 mAh battery yet weighs only 65 grams. The design has also undergone slight refinements, and the hidden screen has been upgraded to full color rather than monochrome. The kit includes two COREX 3.0 pods and is available in seven colorways.

Product intro and specs

If my vaping journey is a love story, the original XROS PRO is the one that got away (one of the ones, anyway!). I was captivated by the classy design, the hidden screen, and the 1200 mAh battery, which was substantial for a pod in early 2024. But, for whatever reason, I never pulled the trigger and ordered one. Thankfully, I’m getting some redemption in 2025. When the new and improved VAPORESSO XROS PRO 2 showed up for review, I was elated. Based on the pictures and specs, I was certain I had scored one of the best pod vapes of the year.

Let’s talk about upgrades. Compared to the original, the PRO 2 is lighter, features a significantly larger battery (2000 mAh vs. 1200 mAh), and has a full-color screen. And, of course, it includes the newer COREX 3.0 pods, which are phenomenal. The design has also undergone subtle changes, but we’ll get to that shortly.

Following the release of the XROS 5 earlier this year, I assume many people are wondering if the PRO 2 is the new king of the XROS family. Maybe; maybe not. I’m conflicted! Keep reading to find out why.

Build quality and design

The XROS PRO 2 clearly draws on its predecessor’s style, but it feels more refined, mainly due to the front panel. It still juts out from the chassis, but it’s been smoothed into a subtle curve. Another significant difference is the weight: despite increases in dimensions and battery capacity, the PRO 2 is 25% lighter than the original. How is this possible? A new aerospace-grade magnesium alloy body. It’s a seemingly minor change, but it makes a massive difference. The weight is astonishing (65 grams), given its 2000 mAh battery.

The hidden screen has also been upgraded. It’s much larger, in full color, and offers a few new features. Admittedly, I was somewhat disappointed when I first saw the display on the gold version, as it looked hazy. But when I noticed the much more vivid display on my black device, I realized the front panels were causing the distortion. Darker panels are ideal if you want sharper colors; however, the subdued, hazy look has since grown on me.

As for moving parts, VAPORESSO knocked it out of the park as usual. The button feels great (not too clicky; not too mushy), and the airflow slider tension is perfect. I also love the soft sheen of the chassis; not only is it fingerprint-resistant, but it feels classy and mature (unlike glossy finishes). The plastic front panels do attract fingerprints, but that’s unavoidable.

Despite excelling in design and build quality, one of my devices arrived with a few imperfections on the backside. Having never received a blemished VAPORESSO product (and I’ve owned dozens), this caught me off guard. The same device continued to accumulate scratches throughout my testing, so its finish might not be the most resilient. (Note that this was only an issue with the gold colorway; my black device still looks great.)

Getting started

The XROS PRO 2 would probably be considered an “advanced” device, but it remains fairly intuitive. Most users won’t even require a manual; click like a madman for two minutes, and it should all make sense. Here’s a quick overview to get you started:

  • One click to wake up the device or fire (if button firing is activated)
  • Two clicks to change themes
  • Three clicks to change the power
  • Four clicks to enter the menu (screen lock, animations on/off, puff clear, puff history, button on/off)
  • Five clicks to power on/off

Note: as with the XROS 5, you need to hold the button down to confirm most menu choices.

One feature that might not be so obvious is stealth mode. Just open the theme menu (two clicks) and select “power save.” This deactivates the screen and animations while vaping; however, the LED battery indicator remains visible. To view the display while in stealth mode, short-press the button.

As with previous XROS devices, the power adjustment options are pod-dependent. With the 0.4-ohm pod installed, precise wattages are available (15-30 watts). However, with the other pods, the only options are Eco, Normal, and Power. I suspect VAPORESSO is catering to beginners with this approach, as a three-stage system (low, medium, high) is more intuitive than a wattage range. While others may feel differently, this doesn’t bother me at all. Three options are really all I need.

Filling probably doesn’t require an explanation at this point. The XROS revolutionized top-fill pods over five years ago, and the system is still the same today. Simply press against the broad side of the mouthpiece to remove and expose the fill ports (“crack-to-fill”).

Performance

The VAPORESSO XROS PRO 2 comes with a 0.4- and 0.6-ohm pod, powered by the latest COREX 3.0 technology. I had a great experience with these pods during my XROS 5 review, so I’ll be covering some familiar territory here. However, I hadn’t tried the 0.4-ohm version yet, so let’s start there.

0.4-ohm pod: Considering the resistance and wattage range (30 watts max), this pod seemed ideal for RDL. I tested it with a 70VG watermelon ice flavor, primarily at 20-22 watts. As expected, the flavor is excellent. I wouldn’t claim it’s “game-changing,” but I still think it’s a top-tier option in this category. Although the low resistance might suggest a more open draw, it’s actually on the tighter side of RDL, similar to many 0.6-ohm pods.

Although this pod got off to a strong start, it sadly died after just 14 mL. I’ve gotten over 30 mL when using the same liquid in other pods, so it was probably just a defect. I immediately swapped in a new pod, and it’s been smooth sailing so far (18 mL at the time of writing).

0.6-ohm pod: I was already in love with these pods going into this review, and my infatuation remains unchanged. I still consider them to be among the best MTL pods on the market (RDL is also possible; I just haven’t tried it).

To further test its potential, I opted for a dry tobacco e-liquid this time around. Because of the low sweetener level, this flavor profile can really fall flat when paired with a subpar pod/atomizer. But COREX 3.0 delivered once again, perfectly showcasing all the unique tobacco characteristics.

As for longevity, I’ve only put about 20 mL through it, but based on past experiences with these pods (35+ mL), it should still have plenty of life left.

Battery life and charging

The weight-to-battery ratio is probably the most intriguing feature of the XROS PRO 2. Is it even possible for a 65-gram device to contain a whopping 2000 mAh battery? While I was skeptical at first, my testing yielded surprising results. A full charge puts around 1600-1696 mAh back into the battery. No, that’s not 2000 mAh, but it’s within the acceptable 80% range. It’s also the highest capacity I’ve ever seen in a device of this size. I’ve been getting around 9 mL per charge, which is fantastic.

Unfortunately, it seems VAPORESSO was forced to make a compromise, favoring capacity over charge rate. Whereas the XROS 5 offered 3A charging, the XROS PRO 2 is limited to 2 amps. A full charge requires 60-70 minutes. Although that’s more downtime than I would like, it seems perfectly acceptable given the capacity. This device easily gets me through a full day, so a quick charge on the go isn’t entirely necessary.

Verdict

Let’s revisit my opening question: Is the VAPORESSO XROS PRO 2 the best device in the series? In some ways, absolutely. In other ways, no. It’s undoubtedly a valuable addition to the family, but it doesn’t necessarily reign supreme. Let me explain.

Compared to the XROS 5, the PRO 2 offers a larger battery and a hidden screen (it’s also 8 grams lighter, but this seems negligible). But when you turn the tables, the XROS 5 is smaller, has a more vibrant display, and charges considerably faster. It really depends on what you want from a pod vape. As for me, I’d be more than happy with either of them.

My biggest complaint is the somewhat flawed condition of one of my devices. This was surprising, as VAPORESSO’s QC is almost always on point. The gold finish proved prone to hairline scratches during my testing, so the minor wear and tear was inevitable anyway. The short lifespan of the 0.4-ohm pod was also disappointing, but that has nothing to do with the device itself.

Ultimately, I think the XROS PRO 2 is another big win for VAPORESSO. Let me rephrase: it’s another big win for vapers. This device rocks! I consider it one of the top five pod vapes of the year, but much of that comes down to the performance from the COREX 3.0 pods. Realistically, if you have some of those handy, any XROS will do.

Highly recommended for MTL pod users; reluctant recommendation for RDL users (I likely received a bad 0.4-ohm pod, but your mileage may vary).
